Best for: oysters, pastries and l'experiénce Parisienne
The few days of sun that we’ve had gave way to typical British summer rain, and sadly B couldn’t join us, so it was just Annelise, mum and I hiding inside our very French refuge, sipping on tea and coffee. The first thing I noticed was the light – yellow soft lighting (as seen in pictures) that transports you back to 1920s brasseries, and décor following the same style – wooden tables, black and white stone floors, vintage mirrors with writing …there were even pastry and oyster bars! This place got better by the second and it felt like we’d taken the Eurostar back in time – all we needed was a live band with a very sombre (but cute) French guy ready to whisk us away in his Vespa. I digress…
After carefully scrutinising the menu, and deciding we need to revisit for lunch/dinner to try everything else, we decided on our fates.
The order:
- Eggs Royale
- Hazelnut waffles with warm berries, crème fraîche and maple syrup
- Avocado on toast with two poached eggs, served on sourdough with a tomato salsa
- Basket of bread and pastries w/jams and butter
Service was good, they sprinkled pepper, sorted a panier/bread basket mix upon request, with lovely raspberry and strawberry jams – they even posed excitedly for the picture! All in all not an amazing, breath-taking brunch, but not an average one either! The food was good! Just not in the top three.
