As I’ve been spending some time in Chelsea, I was bound to end up at Bluebird. And so was the case on a Saturday morning when Trevor and I decided to go for a walk down the Kings Road and magically find a restaurant with space for 2 for brunch at 11am (i.e. I was ready to beg).
We were turned away by the receptionists at The Ivy (of course...) and I think even My Old Dutch was closed, but then in all the misery and hangriness appeared the Bluebird. Granted, we had to wait for a few minutes but sipping our teas on the heated terrace wasn’t so bad. We were even considering taking brunch outdoors (daring!) but then we were called inside, as our table was ready.
Okay so it was a shared table, but it was kind of OK. I didn’t expect more without a booking – although if you book make sure you get the tables by the windows, they looked much more fun and bright. Because we arrived late for breakfast, and the “brunch” or all day menu is much more restricted, it was easier to decide on what to eat.

The order:
- Earl grey tea
- Cappuccino
- Eggs Royale
- Eggs Benedict
- Carafe of white wine
The eggs were exquisite and, although our table didn’t impress me, I had a really nice time people watching and enjoying a 'neighbourly' morning with Trevor. Definitely coming back. I also spotted the Crêperie at Bluebird, so yes, I think our next visit will be a lot sweeter.
